On 4th March (World Book Day), I will be marking the launch of Circus Maximus: Race to the Death with a series of 45 minute talks delivered online to children in Years 3-8 at Port Regis School. As well as telling them about my inspiration for the book, I'll be taking them on a journey back into ancient Rome and giving them a flavour of the sort of historical research I did to conjure up the tastes, sounds, sights and smells of Dido's world and the nail-biting excitement of a day at the chariot races. Pupils will also get to try their hand at a creative challenge designed to get them thinking like a writer of historical fiction. Afterwards, there will be a reading and a Q and A session with pupils.
If you would be interested in having me do a similar talk for your school, please do get in touch via the Contacts Page. I have fifteen years experience teaching Latin to pupils from Year 5-8 and am very comfortable with this age group. The subject matter would tie in very well with the Roman history element of the KS2 syllabus.
